In the study, experts NSS Labs conducted two series of tests. In the first series of experts determined the level of ability of browsers to block web-links to pages with malicious software. The second series was aimed at clarifying the ability of web-browsers to deal with phishing sites that are detrimental to advertisers.
The researchers tested the Internet Explorer 9, Google Chrome version 15 and 19, Apple Safari 5 and Mozilla Firefox versions from 7 to 13. According to a study by research firm NSS Labs, Internet Explorer 9 is the safest browser against malware.
Internet Explorer 9 blocked 94% of malicious links, Chrome – 27,6%, and Safari and Firefox – less than 6% each. In the second phase, namely, test counter fraudulent marketing mechanisms, the gap between the browser from Microsoft and other web-browsers proved even more: IE9 blocked the activity of 96.6%, Chrome – 1,6%, while Safari and Firefox – less than 1% .
