Defender Windows 8 is not able to protect your computer from Internet threats

The second question – whether to install a third-party anti-virus solution for Windows 8?

According to a test Virusovnet October 2012 can be argued that Windows Defender Windows 8 will not be able to provide adequate protection to users of popular operating systems, third-party antivirus solution is installed immediately after the purchase of Windows 8, otherwise, after a few days of active use of the Internet you can with surprised to find that your computer has become a breeding ground for malware.

Testing Virusovnet October 2012 was conducted to determine the feasibility of comprehensive antivirus class Internet Security to block malicious applications on the home computer user while downloading files from the Internet. Following the test objectives were involved only the main components – anti-virus engine and web protection.

In testing with 24 participants versions of popular antivirus class Internet Security, compatible with Windows 8. Antivirus settings are set to maximum for the components used in the test: on-demand scanner, protection in real-time, web-protection. Antivirus solutions were evaluated in three categories: detection when loading malicious files from the Internet, the overall level of detection after a scan on demand balances load, the number of false positives.

As tested 13 antivirus Internet Security class showed very good results (Virusovnet High +), scored from 9.8 to 10 points (out of 10):

– G Data InternetSecurity 2013 (10), Emsisoft Internet Security Pack (9,9), Comodo Internet Security Premium 5.12 (9,8) and others;

– 4 antivirus solutions have shown good results (Virusovnet High), including Trend Micro Titanium Internet Security 2013 (9,7), Kaspersky Internet Security 2013 (9.7), and others;

– 4 antivirus solutions showed an average level of testing (Virusovnet Average), including Panda Cloud Office Protection (9,0), AVG Internet Security 2013 (8.7), and others;

– 3 antivirus solutions have not been tested: eScan Internet Security 11 (8,3), Windows Defender (Windows 8) (8,2), Outpost Security Suite PRO (7,3);

Windows Defender failed to detect boot only 2.9% of the threats, and the overall detection rate of 88.5% – the lowest in the testing Virusovnet October 2012.

Virusovnet High + – 10 to 9.8 points (inclusive);
Virusovnet High – less than 9.8 to 9.3 points (inclusive);
Virusovnet Average – less than 9.3 to 8.5 points (inclusive).
