Kaspersky LabAccording to Kaspersky Lab’s analysis report, in 2013, the number of malware for Android has reached its absolute peak.

In late January 2014 in the Google Play experts found 200 thousand unique samples of malicious software for mobile platforms.

For the Android platform, there are over 10 million malicious applications, noted Kaspersky Lab experts, in its latest report. According to them, the end of January 2014 in Google Play and other resources they have found 200 thousand unique samples of malware for mobile platforms, which was masked as normal applications. Still more than a third of such users will still do their internet surfing without having the security action that they have to do while logging on to a Wi–Fi  public hot spot. This is info from the Kaspersky Consumer Security Risks survey which was done by the B2B International and Kaspersky Lab in the summer of 2013.

It is so easy to go online these days. It is not limited to cell networks anymore and also with broadband cable communication networks. You can connect with a public Wi – Fi hot spot that would allow to connect a number of computers and mobile gadgets to the web. (more…)

Spam and phishingThe number of Internet users, faced with phishing attacks over the past 12 months increased by 87% – from 19.9 to 37.3 million.

Most often the victims of cyber threats become residents of Russia, the U.S., India, Vietnam and the UK. These are the results of the study “The Evolution of phishing attacks in 2011-2013” conducted by Kaspersky Lab in June 2013 based on data from the cloud monitoring system Kaspersky Security Network.

Phishing –  Internet fraud in which criminals create a fake copy of a popular site (e-mail service, online banking, social networks, etc.) and the different ways to try to lure users to the Internet. The purpose of phishing attacks – get valuable user data: personal data, information for accessing banking services and accounts in social networks. Subsequently, malicious or self-use collected information to steal the victim’s money, as well as the spread of spam and malware through compromised accounts in the mail or social networks, or resell the information to other criminals. Kaspersky LabIn the new generation of Kaspersky Lab antivirus will ZETA Shield technology

Kaspersky Lab is going to use your anti-malware code of corporate products in the line of solutions for home users, which should help the latter deal more effectively with the attacks, based on zero-day vulnerabilities. “We are doing so for the first time. Usually we design things for consumer products, and then adapt them for enterprise solutions. But with technology ZETA, we created the first version of its server to block attacks, corporate, and then moved it to a PC,” – says Denis Nazarov, head of the anti-malware research at Kaspersky Lab USA.

ZETA Shield technology was designed to scan incoming e-mail messages and attachments contained in the letters. ZETA does not check the incoming code in the letters, it simulates the conditions in which the code can be up and watching to see what happens during the run, identifying malicious behavior embedded in email and distinguish it from the legitimate code. Kaspersky Lab“Kaspersky Lab” has announced disclosure a new cyber-espionage network, dubbed NetTraveler and which affected more than 350 computer systems in 40 countries.

Were attacked public and private entities, including government agencies, embassies, research centers, military organizations, oil and gas companies, as well as political activists.

According to investigations conducted by experts of “Kaspersky Lab” espionage campaign launched back in 2004, but its peak occurred in the period from 2010 to 2013. Recently, in the sphere of interest of the attackers included industries such as space exploration, nanotechnology, energy, including nuclear, medicine, and telecommunications. (more…)

Kaspersky LabThe new virus forces the personal computer to earn Bitcoin virtual currency.

Specialists of Kaspersky Lab found a new unusual virus spreading in the file «bitcoin-miner.exe». The virus uses the processing power of infected PCs, to “produce” virtual currency for intruders.

As soon as the course of virtual currency Bitcoin grows over time (for it is already possible to buy a real house), attackers are increasingly trying to get the currency detours. For example, found at the end of last year Skynet botnet contains a module for obtaining new bitkoins on capacities of infected machines. The fact that the number of outstanding Bitkoins strictly limited, and new Bitkoins appear only as a result of serious computing. Time for a lucrative “getting” Bitkoins way at the end: soon their number will become so large that the calculation of each following bitkoyna be prohibitively expensive. (more…)

Kaspersky Internet Security 2013 serious vulnerability

The new version of the software Kaspersky Internet Security 2013 contains a vulnerability that can trigger remote to completely paralyze the target computer.

Bug manifests itself in an attack by a specially crafted packet to the IPv6 protocol and sending it to the built-in firewall, which is part of a new product Kaspersky Lab.

Independent experts say that the bug also occurs in other products of the company with a built-in firewall.

According to Seclists.org, if a potential attacker sends over the network to the victim machine network packet format IPv6, and in the package there is a fragment header larger than the standard, it is fully “hangs” firewall, the product and the computer with them. Moreover, experts say that the product and the computer hang even before Internet Security 2013 has time to log a warning about the “wrong” IP-package and system logs antivirus does not leave any traces of the attack. Kaspersky LabSpecialists in viruses from Kaspersky Lab discovered and described the unusual malicious applications to Android, which for some time have been published in the official store Play Market.

As it turned out, those applications that fall under the definition of viruses that try to compromise Windows-machine by turning the microphone on your PC without your knowledge.

At some point it had to happen – the wiretapping space around Windows-machine is not uncommon for traditional viruses targeting conventional computers. Feature of the next opening specialists Kaspersky is the first time for the penetration of the PC used is Android-application. This application hosted called DroidCleaner, attacked PC through the infamous autorun, placing a special file on the memory card. When you connect your smartphone or tablet PC this file is read and loaded (if the car was not autorun disabled), the virus penetrates the PC includes a microphone for recording and sending recorded audio files to their authors.

The purpose of creating a hybrid virus listener is not completely clear. Of course, in some situations, such as economic or political espionage, a virus might be useful. In other situations, the virus is too broad fronts. Maybe it’s just checking technology before launching a more sophisticated and targeted attack. (more…)

Kaspersky LabExperts of “Kaspersky Lab” analyzed programs containing vulnerabilities that are most often used by hackers to commit attacks on computers.

According to a published report, an average of one user account for 12 vulnerabilities in the software. All in all, it was discovered more than 132 million vulnerable applications. These and other figures and was able to identify trends in the study of data from 11 million computers in the composition of the cloud network Kaspersky Security Network, from January to December 2012.

Last year it was discovered 806 unique vulnerabilities. Only 37 of them were found in at least 10% of the computers for at least one week in the period of analysis. This sensitive software that can attract the attention of criminals. 37 These vulnerabilities have been found in 11 different groups of programs. The most vulnerable are the products Adobe Shockwave / Flash Player, Apple iTunes / QuickTime and Oracle Java. (more…)
